"Sur l'Étang" is a short barcarolle in the romantic style. It was inspired to the author by a pond in the northern part of France, near to the Belgian region of Chimay. There, the peacefulness of the green, surrounding woods is only troubled by the quiet sound of the rowing barge on the water.
