JOURNEAU - FRANCE MUSIQUE : "The Basque coast"- "Marine" op.23

The Radio-France producer Denisa Kerschova, renowned for her classical music broadcasts, had already allowed listeners to discover "Marine", a sea-piece by the french composer Maurice Journeau in her programme "Musiques-les-Bains: Biarritz" on August 25th 2018 at 11 a.m. There, she comes back to this musical work and to this "unknown" composer, born in the year 1898 in Biarritz, considering him as a "discreet, endearing, nearly secret" composer, for composing music was not his professional career but the joy of his whole life.

This "Musiques-les-Bains: La Côte basque" (tr: The Basque coast) on Saturday, August 23rd 2025, is Denisa Kerschova's 9th stage in the interesting universe of European spa and sea-side resorts like, for example, Vichy, Bath, Budapest...But, even if they were medical treatments' places, all these towns moreover created diplomatic opportunities of meeting in a discreet, even friendly way between sovereigns from different countries or cultural occasions for artists.

Journeau's work "Marine"op.23 was composed in May 1936 for cello and piano. But it is broadcast there again in its transcription for violin and piano by the composer himself and skilfully interpreted by the french duet of François Goïc (violin) and Cathy Cousin (piano) dedicated themselves to classical french music (CD Skarbo DSK 4151).
