On radio Accent 4 : "Prière à la Vierge" Op. 57

December 11th, 2019 à 6.21 pm

Historically, the French title granted by the composer for this spiritual work of 1972 was "Prière pour chant et orgue" (a Prayer for voice and organ). It was changed by a representative of the publisher, yet it was accepted by the composer. It is not a liturgical work for parishioners. But a work for sacred music by professional singers. One may particularly notice the quite beautiful, long, difficult vocalizing at the end. The work was intended by the composer for a tenor or soprano voice. Yet it was also performed by mezzo-soprani and even a baritone such as Benoit Leblanc, a talented artist from Montréal. With an accompaniment by Jacques Boucher, a well-known organist in Canada and abroad who already recorded violin and organ works by Journeau.
