When the young composer attempted to write the sonatina op. 4, it was quite new to him. Then he later wrote three other sonatinas. But the first one always remained considered by him as the most significant one. It was first performed and then broadcast on the french radio in 1952 by a french well-known lady pianist, Ginette Doyen.
