"MATER" for violin and organ
April 2011CD "Mater"-"Oeuvres dédiées à la Vierge" by the duet of Anne Robert (violin) and Jacques Boucher (organ) in Montréal (Québec)
"This CD of Sacred Music allows us to hear both well-known organistic works and some works by more recent composers. Among these, the "Prière à la Vierge"op. 57 by Maurice Journeau ("Europart-Music" publisher, Ligugé, France) is a work written in 1972 as "Prière pour chant et orgue", on a decade when the composer became particularly interested in the organ. This recording is an exception to the usual performance of the "Ave Maria" (in French, not in Latin) intended by the composer for voice and organ. The work, indeed, led the international soloist Anne Robert to use the violin, an instrument very near to human voice. And, finally, we do not miss it in this particular case of a great artist succeeding in making us feel - thanks to her unusual, moving interpretation - this very cry of the so feeble human being towards the Mother of God in a totally confident abandonment. A quite splendid violinistic sound, sustained by the organ part in an intimate but also expressive way. A successful common attempt. And a discovery of new authors for organ music lovers". (Ch.
